List every fixture by location and type: wall bay, gondola, display table, counter, shelving unit or storage rack. Note whether it is freestanding, joined to another fixture or attached to the building.
The measurement sheet
| Measure | Record | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Fixture | Width × depth × height | Can it travel upright or must it be dismantled? |
| Narrowest door | Clear opening with hardware | Do not rely on the nominal door size. |
| Tightest turn | Hall width and corner clearance | Long counters need swing room. |
| Truck route | Distance, slope and threshold | Choose carts and floor protection. |
Find the connections before the crew does
Look under and behind counters for power, data, plumbing, security cables and fasteners. A qualified party should disconnect building systems. Mark landlord-owned fixtures and anything that must remain under a lease or turnover agreement.
Plan around customers and neighboring tenants
If the shop remains open, separate the work zone and hauling path from customer circulation. Confirm noise, service-corridor and loading rules with property management. In a closed store, keep emergency exits and sprinkler access clear.
Prepare loose contents
Empty drawers and shelves. Separate saleable stock, records, payment devices, batteries, lamps and chemicals. Labeling a box “remove” is more useful than relying on verbal directions during loading.
Photograph the fixtures after the final keep/remove walk-through. The photos give the estimator and on-site approver the same reference.
